”Caersws (Powys) is a nucleated village that stands on the site of a Roman fortification. It was recorded as Caerswys in the 14th century. Caer- is the post-Roman Gaulish replacement for -dunon, and can refer to any fortified place. -sws is likely to be the old name of the Afon Carno. The 14th century form, -swys, points to a British Vasconic suiS(e) ‘tree’. The Romans might have called the place ‘SUISIUM,'” according to Angus J Huck.
